Newcomers Guide

The successful NIS Parents Association (PA) is run by parents.  As a parent at the school, you automatically become a member.  When parents first arrive, the non working spouse often finds it helpful to assist with PA events while they make friends, learn Danish or look for a job.

Every year the PA organise 8 events.  These popular events include:

  • Welcome coffee on the first day of school (and usually in January too)
  • International Day
  • Autumn celebrations
  • December Hygge (Hygge means cosy in Danish)
  • Book swap (as part of Book Week)
  • Spring event and
  • End of year BBQ.

These great events bring NIS children and parents together and bond us at a community. Find out more about these events and what happens at school by joining the North Zealand International School Facebook group.

The PA have a good working relationship with senior management at the school and are able to represent parents views at all levels on issues that matter to the parents.  The class representatives and their helpers liaise with parents to accomplish this important role.  Many class representatives do much more however, including coordinating the organisation of class events and keeping parents up to date via Whatsapp groups.

The PA newsletter, called the Bulletin, keeps everyone up to date with news and forth coming events.

The PA is so successful because everyone gets involved.  The PA is always looking for parents to help with events and make the school even better.
