Secondary School

Welcome to Secondary School at NIS

At North Zealand International School, our shared vision shapes everything we do: “NIS learners actively engage in shaping their own learning, continually aiming to be respectful, responsible, globally minded lifelong learners.”

Our Secondary pathway begins with Lower Secondary for learners aged 11–14 and continues into Upper Secondary for learners aged 14–16 Cambridge Upper Secondary for 14–16-year-olds, leading to International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) qualifications.

We combine the strengths of the International Curriculum Association International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC) and Cambridge Assessment International Education Cambridge programmes to create a connected and challenging learning journey for our learners.

The IMYC develops curiosity, personal growth and global understanding through engaging, thematic learning. Alongside this, Cambridge provides a strong academic framework that builds subject knowledge, critical thinking and internationally recognised qualifications. Together, the IMYC and Cambridge programmes complement one another, encouraging learners to make meaningful connections between subjects while developing the academic skills and confidence needed for future success as they journey through Secondary, IBDP and beyond.

For example, learners may explore global themes through IMYC units while strengthening their analytical, scientific and communication skills through the Cambridge curriculum. This combination helps learners become reflective, responsible and independent thinkers who are prepared for further education and life beyond school.

Throughout the Secondary years at NIS, development on the Personal Learning Goals play a key role in supporting our shared vision of developing respectful, responsible and globally minded lifelong learners. Through collaboration, reflection and enquiry, learners gradually develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others while becoming more independent in their learning. These qualities are nurtured across all subjects and experiences, helping learners build confidence, take ownership of their progress and contribute positively to both the school community and the wider world.
