Upper Secondary

Upper Secondary (14-16 years)
At North Zealand International School, we aim for every student to achieve strong academic results while developing the knowledge, skills, and perspectives needed to thrive in an international world.
In Years 10 and 11, students follow the internationally recognised Cambridge Assessment International Education IGCSE programme. By choosing subjects that match their interests and strengths, students are able to challenge themselves and achieve their full potential.

Preparing for the Future
The Cambridge IGCSE programme provides an excellent foundation for further study. NIS students are well prepared to progress to a range of post-16 pathways, including the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, Pre-IB, Cambridge Assessment International Education AS and A Levels, and other international qualifications.
Personalised Support
Our small, close-knit school community allows students to build strong relationships with their teachers. This enables us to know each learner well and provide the guidance and support they need to succeed academically and personally.
Assessment and Examination Preparation
Throughout Years 10 and 11, students complete regular assessments and two rounds of mock examinations. These practice exams help students become familiar with exam conditions and develop the confidence and strategies needed to perform at their best in the final examinations.
Coursework is assessed internally and externally moderated to ensure it meets international IGCSE standards.
Danish Language
All students continue to study Danish in Years 10 and 11.
  • Beginners and intermediate learners follow a core Danish course.
  • Advanced learners may choose to sit the Danish school-leaving examination, Folkeskolens Afgangsprøve, at the end of Year 11.
Keeping Parents Informed
Parents receive regular updates on their child’s progress through teacher blogs, formal reports issued in January and June, and Parent-Learner-Teacher conferences held twice each year.
Educational Trips
Upper Secondary students take part in annual educational trips to European cities such as Edinburgh, Berlin, and Budapest. These experiences extend classroom learning while helping students build independence, friendships, and lasting memories.

Model United Nations

Our NISMUN community is very strong, with over 30 participants.  The students meet weekly during lunch time to discuss global issues linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.  The students develop research and debating skills as well as the importance of compromising to find solutions.  We attend Model United Nations conferences in Europe, including SISMUN at Stockholm International School.  In the coming year we will also be attending MUNISH at The International School of The Hague.  We plan to host our first NISMUN conference within the next couple of years.
