A Year filled with play, creativity and community in Svanereden

Every afternoon, NGG’s after-school programme, Svanereden, is buzzing with life and joyful voices, as up to 130 Danish and international children find a safe and inspiring space after their school day.

Here, there’s room for everything from energetic ball games and outdoor adventures to calm, focused moments – whether it’s diving into a board game, caring for the rabbits, building in the wood workshop, or expressing oneself through creative projects.

At Svanereden, we follow a daily structure where children are offered a wide range of activities while also having plenty of time for free play – both indoors and on the playground. We offer woodwork, creative arts and crafts, jewellery-making, sports, cooking, and a rabbit care area. Every other week, we go on an off-site roleplaying adventure – an activity the children look forward to with great excitement.

Creativity and traditions

Throughout the year, children have taken part in many delightful and recurring activities that allow for deep concentration and imaginative expression. One of the highlights was our dedicated art month, when our creative spaces overflowed with ideas. It all culminated in a beautiful art opening where the children proudly presented their work.

Our Christmas and Easter workshops were also magical and cosy moments, where creativity bloomed with glitter, colours, and imaginative decorations.

Community and experiences

Svanereden is also a place where friendships grow stronger, and throughout the year, we’ve had many memorable events that sparked laughter, togetherness, and lasting memories. The much-loved girls’ and boys’ sleepovers offered cosy fun, storytelling, and a special sense of belonging.

Our movie nights transformed the common areas into cosy mini cinemas filled with popcorn and blankets, while our fun-filled bingo Fridays brought children together across year groups in joyful excitement.

A safe space

At Svanereden, it’s not just about activities – it’s about creating a space where children thrive, grow, and feel at home. Whether they’re building a rabbit enclosure, painting, playing football, or simply sitting in the sun chatting with friends, the children’s own needs and interests set the tone.

We’re already looking forward to new adventures in the year to come – and to sharing even more special moments in our wonderful community!

Be Creative – Like in Svanereden

We often receive questions from parents about the beautiful creations their children make in Svanereden. Every Friday, Svanereden shares a DIY post on our Facebook and Instagram profiles. DIY stands for "Do it yourself," and these are simple guides showing how you can be creative at home – just like in Svanereden.

We decided to share some of the guides because we want to show that making something beautiful doesn’t have to be difficult. With just a few simple materials and a bit of inspiration, you can easily create lovely gifts for family and friends – or simply make cozy decorations for your home.

You can follow the guides just by looking at the pictures, and we hope they bring lots of creative joy.

Below, you’ll find two of this year’s lovely DIY projects – enjoy!
