Cafeteria

At NGG, we have our own cafeteria, operated by Jespers Torvekøkken. Jespers Torvekøkken has extensive experience providing meals for educational institutions and follows a clear philosophy of healthy, tasty and sustainable food made from scratch. The focus is on high-quality ingredients, variety and creating joy around food in everyday school life.

The cafeteria offers a wide selection of lunch dishes, sandwiches, snacks as well as fruit and vegetables, tailored to the different age groups across the school. In the morning, students and staff can also purchase homemade healthy buns, skyr with homemade granola and fresh fruit – a nutritious and energising start to the school day.

Free lunch for Year 1–4

From January 2026, NGG is part of the national school meal pilot programme. This means that all learners in Year 1–4 and 0–3 Grade are offered a free lunch meal on school days for a three-year period.

The aim of the programme is to explore the impact of daily school meals on children’s health, wellbeing, learning and sense of community. At NGG, the meal programme is about more than food – it is also about creating calm and a daily rhythm in the middle of the day, strengthening community, and using the meal as a supportive educational setting for wellbeing, personal development and healthy habits.

The meals are prepared by Jespers Torvekøkken and served as a healthy, nutritious lunch that provides energy for the rest of the school day. Learners will gradually be introduced to new dishes and ingredients, and we work actively with developing food confidence and curiosity – at a pace where everyone can take part.

As this is a pilot programme, we are learning and adjusting along the way. Both the structure and menus are continuously evaluated in collaboration with the kitchen team, teachers and learners, to ensure the programme works as well as possible in everyday school life.

Ordering and payment – other year groups

For learners in Year 5–7, meals can be pre-ordered via Kanpla, so they are ready for pick-up in the cafeteria.

For learners in Year 8–10, payment is made in the cafeteria using a Kanpla card or a physical credit card, as NGG is a mobile-free school. The card is used both for cashless purchases and for collecting pre-ordered meals.

Registration for Kanpla takes place via www.kanpla.dk after which the Kanpla app can be downloaded from the App Store. In the app, you can view menus and pre-order meals. Kanpla cards are distributed in the cafeteria.

Here you can find a complete guideline for Kanpla.

Pre-ordered meals for Lower Primary and Middle School are collected by the class helper when the lunch break begins.
