Lower Secondary at NGG – experiences, academics, and community
Real-world learning and science in practice
Over the years, lower secondary at NGG has offered a wealth of exciting academic projects, excursions, and collaborations that have brought learning closer to real life. Students have, for example, explored Danish politics on an inspiring trip to the Danish Parliament, where they had the opportunity to debate dilemmas and experience democracy from the inside.
Science has played a central role throughout the programme – from the many activities during Science Festival Week to hands-on workshops and partnerships. Students have worked with topics such as plastic pollution in nature, biodiversity in the wild, and the importance of waste sorting for our planet. Topics ranged from the salinity of seawater to brain research, and in a hands-on workshop at the Experimentarium, students tested electrical brain signals on their own bodies.
NGG was also strongly represented in the national competition Young Scientists, where nine talented students reached the finals with innovative projects. Several students also worked on developing their own products within sustainability and health. In collaboration with renowned researchers, students participated in learning modules on the brain and memory optimisation – and one team even advanced to recordings for Denmark’s Junior Dragons’ Den.
Out into the world and into each other’s community
The lower secondary years have also brought major experiences outside the classroom. Year 7 travelled to Bornholm to explore the island’s history, nature, and group spirit, while Year 9 set off for Berlin on a study tour filled with culture, learning, and teambuilding. Other classes visited the UN City in Copenhagen, the Zoo, and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, where interdisciplinary activities connected society, nature, and the arts.
Several classes collaborated across year groups on project weeks, fieldwork, and creative ventures. Some explored farming, drone technology, and regenerative agriculture on the “Tour de Landbrug,” while others worked with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, data collection, biodiversity, and urban and rural development. The efforts culminated in a series of academic presentations and exhibitions, where students proudly shared their knowledge and insights.
At NGG, school is not just about academics – it’s also about community. That’s why the lower secondary years have been filled with shared moments: parties, teambuilding activities, mini-golf, group games, and Friday highlights. Well-being projects across grades, peer-to-peer teaching, and thoughtful discussions about inclusive communities have shaped this stage of school life in a meaningful way.
Creativity, career dreams, and the last day of school
Lower secondary at NGG is also a place where new sides of students are allowed to grow. The student-led writing club continues to flourish with creative texts and weekly writing exercises, and Year 7’s perspective drawings have brightened up the school corridors. Students have debated the UN Sustainable Development Goals, worked on maths projects using their own surveys, and some have even developed their own seaweed-based skincare products.
Visits from former students have brought new perspectives on career paths and life after school, and it has been inspiring to hear about their journeys from NGG to research, business, and personal ambition.
The school years rounded off with a spectacular farewell for Year 9, where sunshine, brunch, flying sweets, and a trip to Bakken amusement park marked the transition to the next chapter. We are proud of all our graduates and wish them the very best for whatever lies ahead.
Thank you for three years filled with courage, curiosity, laughter, and engagement.
