Middle School – Curiosity, Community and Creativity
Creative Expression and Strong Voices
Creativity has flourished throughout the Middle School, where words, ideas and stories have been given space to grow. One class worked on writing bedtime stories for younger children, developing their ability to communicate emotions, create vivid descriptions and craft meaningful messages. Reading the stories aloud to younger learners became a heartwarming experience that sparked important conversations about feelings and experiences.
The Writing Club has also continued to thrive as a creative space for learners with a passion for storytelling. Originally launched on student initiative, the club brings together young writers from across the school for weekly writing exercises, inspiration and community – not to mention the occasional piece of cake. Thanks to support from the Danish Arts Foundation, the club welcomed author Julie Midtgaard, who shared her experiences and encouraged the aspiring writers. We are proud to see both their confidence and their storytelling skills continue to grow.
Learning with Perspective and a Focus on Nature
In Middle School, learning is brought to life – and sometimes even contributes to real scientific discovery. Through Denmark’s nationwide Mass Experiment, learners helped map mosses, lichens and tardigrades across the country. The results were published in a scientific article, and the learners’ work contributed to increasing the number of known Danish tardigrade species from 14 to an impressive 55. Several species had never previously been documented in Denmark, giving learners a unique opportunity to experience how curiosity and academic learning can contribute to real research.
Grade 4 explored the fascinating world of migratory birds, bringing biology to life through interactive activities and challenges. A school-wide quiz helped learners follow the swallow’s remarkable journey across continents, making the topic both engaging and memorable. The year also included a visit to the Øresund Aquarium in Helsingør, where learners explored marine life up close, fished in waders and even celebrated a birthday by the water’s edge.
